Version types
New versions of Litium are released as major, minor or service versions. For example, version 4.7.1 means "major version 4, minor version 7, service version 1". Add-ons are compatible within a specific minor version of Litium.
Major versions
A major version indicates a significant change in functionality and technology. Because there will be a number of breaking changes with a new major version, upgrading to a new major version is a bigger step than upgrading between minor versions and will require modifications to the customers solution.
Major versions are released every 2-3 years.
Minor versions
Minor versions contain new functionality as well as bug fixes and are released at least once a year. Minor versions can contain breaking changes so some components in the customer solution might have to be modified, recompiled and tested to work with the new version.
Minor versions are released bimonthly.
Service versions
A service version contains bug fixes and smaller enhancements. We try not to include any breaking changes in service releases, and upgrading to a service version should not require any modifications to the customer solution.
Pre-releases
A pre-release is a non-complete release of major, minor or service version. That mean that more fixes may be added before the final release are created. When the major, minor or service version is released you should apply that version instead.
