Fields and field templates
A person, group or an organisation needs to have a field template. A field template specifies what information can be stored in each object.
Field templates
The field templates for the Customers area can be found in back office, Settings > Customers > Field templates.
There are four types of field templates: person, group, organization and target group. Each field template type is associated with different information objects, and has two static fields, Id and Name. The static fields will always be included in the field template (they are connected to other areas) but you can choose to hide them when editing the field template. You can add additional fields by clicking the pen icon (edit) and select the fields in the Add field dropdown list.
Fields
You can view the fields in back office Settings > Customers > Fields. A field can be included in several field templates. A field consists of the following attributes:
- Field type: The type of information that the field will contain. Image, date, decimal, file, boolean or text.
- Settings for back office: If the field should be visible and editable, visible and not editable or hidden inside the Customers area.
- Settings for My Page: If the field should be visible and editable, visible and not editable or hidden when the user edits the values on the page template My Page.
- Mandatory: If the field should be mandatory or not.
- Alternatives: If the field should contain alternatives (for example red, green etc.).
Adding a custom field to a field template
To add a custom field to the template, it needs to be defined in the Fields list. Go to Settings > Customers > Fields and create the field you would like to use. Then edit the field template by clicking Settings > Customers > Field templates > select the field template > Edit, and add the field you created by selecting it in the Add field dropdown list.
