Overview
This section is an introduction to payment providers, payment methods, payment modes, supported payment methods in Litium Studio and how to choose a payment provider.
What is a payment provider?
The payment provider facilitates the actual transfer of money from the customer's account to the merchant's account. The merchant needs to open an account with the payment provider to receive the money. Merchants might also have the option to send money directly to their bank accounts via the payment provider. The merchant has to pay a commission for the services provided by the payment provider, usually a percentage of the value of each transaction.
End customers have to use a payment method supported by the payment provider, to make the payment. Common payment methods are credit card, invoice and bank direct debit payments. Depending on the payment mode, the payment provider may carry out the money transfer directly (called one phase payments), or just reserve the money on end customer's account and wait for a confirmation from the merchant to make the actual transfer (called two phase payments).

The default Litium installation supports many leading payment providers out-of-the box, for example Paypal, PayEx, Klarna, Nets, Skrill and Dibs. Also, there are third-party payment providers that support Litium, for example Paynova and SveaWebPay.
